The OMD Board has decided to revamp our award system. Here is how it will work:

Each year two awards will be given out.

  • In the even number years (starting with DA 2012) we will present the OMD Unsung Hero and UU Visibility Awards
  • In the odd numbered years (starting with DA 2013) we will present the Service to Children and Youth and the Faith in Action Awards.

Each award will include a $100 donation which will be presented to the congregation (for individuals or congregational groups) or the cluster (for cluster groups) of the award winner. In cases of a tie, the money will be split between the winners' organizations.

Rising Star Recognition for each congregation will continue at District Assembly. There is no monetary donation with this recognition. Congregations can recognize one member each year and all those who are put forward will be recognized.

Our forms are now more detailed, as the board would like more information about those nominated. Please read them carefully.

Nominations can be submitted via email or via snail mail and should be sent to the Ohio-Meadville District Office. Deadline for all award nominations is January 15, 2013. Electronic submissions are preferred.

The OMD Board will review the nominations and select the winners at their February meeting. The board would like, if at all possible, to have the winners present at the District Assembly to be recognized in person. Once the winners are selected, Board members will contact the nominators of the winners to make the necessary arrangements to have the winners at the assembly.

Award nomination forms will be available in July.

Service to Children and Youth

This new award pays tribute to a person who has shown great dedication to the children and youth within the district, cluster, congregation and/or the community at large. This individual has shared a meaningful and positive relationship with the young people they have served.

OMD Rising Star Recognition

This recognition is for leaders in your congregation who have made significant contributions and have only been a part of the congregation for 5 years. Each congregation can recognize one person and all our Rising Stars will be recognized at the District Assembly.

OMD Unsung Hero Award

The OMD Unsung Hero Award honors a person who is judged to have given high levels of service to the district, cluster, their congregation and/or the community at large while receiving relatively low levels of recognition. The disparity between the degree of service and the degree of recognition is important in this award. This award will be given again in 2015.

OMD Unitarian Universalist Visibility Award

The Unitarian Universalist Visibility Award is presented to the individual, congregation, or cluster in recognition of an outstanding project to increase congregational and/or denominational visibility. This award will be given again in 2015.
