Evin Carvill-Ziemer is a life-long UU in seminary at Earlham School of Religion. While studying, she is seeking as many opportunities to serve and learn as she can. This has included serving as the Ohio Meadville District's Young Adult and Campus Ministry Consultant for three years as well as leading worship and consulting in area churches. She served the Olmsted UU Congregation for 2.5 years as part-time Student Minister and is now the Intern Minister at West Shore UU Church. She is also a member of the UU Church of Akron.
She is also available to do consultation work with boards and churches. Her background is in experiential education including ropes courses and challenge courses and she brings that perspective and skill set to her church work. Her most recent work has been with facilitating Mission, Vision, and Covenant processes, helping start Small Group Ministry programs, and leading a 'learning how to better handle conflict through theater' workshop.
Below are some sample services that she has done before.
Titles of programs/sermons and a brief statement of content on each:
- Sin as violence, Salvation as love: So often we let other religious voices claim these words. We have our own historical understanding and our own current implicit theology of both what “sin” is and what “salvation” might be. We fight the sins of racism, oppression, and violence. We call on the saving power of love. Why are these sins and how does love save?
- Sing When the Spirit Says Sing: As a “tone-deaf” kid I was told to sing quietly. In doing so, like so many others, I lost the chance to become fully human and fully alive in music. The good news is that what I was told as a child was incorrect. No one is tone-deaf, everyone can learn to sing, and music is our birthright. Let us come alive with music and song.
