Ordained 25 years ago, Maurine (Renee) C. Waun, D.Min. has served UU churches in PA and WV since 1999. Prior to ministry, she spent several years as a teacher on a variety of levels including Montessori, high school and university. She has been active in AIDS advocacy, as well as speaking and serving on behalf of disenfranchised groups through various boards of directors. Dr. Waun’s book MORE Than Welcome: Learning to Embrace Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Persons in the Church received the Publisher’s Choice Award from Chalice Press. In 2006 she became Founding Sponsor of the African Rural School Foundation, for AIDS orphans and disadvantaged children in Uganda (www.africanruralschools.org) and she is one of the founders of the developing Quest International Charter School in Pittsburgh.
