The Ohio-Meadville and St. Lawrence Districts are pleased to announce they have received a grant from the UU Fund for Social Responsibility to underwrite the costs of a Youth Mission Trip to Appalachia this summer.

The youth trip, which is a cooperative venture between the Ohio-Meadville and St. Lawrence Districts, is intended to provide youth with an opportunity for hands on work with those in need in southern West Virginia. Work will include home repair and maintenance, painting and yard work for low income families and senior citizens. In addition to the work they will do each day, the trip will include cultural and educational activities to help the youth understand the background of the area. These activities will include the music and dancing of the area, the role coal has played in the development of West Virginia and the history of the state.

Registration for the week will open by January 15, 2012 and an announcement will be sent out on facebook, twitter and the OMD website when this is available. Adults who are interested in accompanying the youth can indicate this by completing an adult interest form. A limit of three youth per congregation will initially be applied and after April 15th, all those on the waiting list will be given slots on the trip until all 27 youth slots are filled. For details, registration forms and more please visit the Youth Mission Trip Event Page.
