Children's Morning Program

Our children's program offers a variety of activities specially designed for the children to create their own Summer Institute experiences. They will meet separately and together, in various age groups from infants through those entering 6th grade.

Nursery age children (to 3 years) will be cared for in a comfortable, safe environment each morning from 8:30 am to noon.

Preschool, lower elementary and upper elementary will attend the morning worship service with their parents. Afterwards they will go to the children's center to participate in a variety of activities including arts and crafts, games, stories and music until noon. Parents are responsible for picking up their children and joining them for lunch.

Children should participate with respect to adults, other children and their physical environment. They are expected to follow all safety rules of SI.

Parents' Responsibilities regarding children

Summer Institute provides supervised full-time morning programming and late afternoon workshops for children. However, early afternoon and evening activities require parental involvement. Responsibilities include the following:
  • Making sure your child is supervised when not participating in age-specific programs.  This includes during the Early Afternoon Intergenerational Workshops.
  • Being prompt in picking up children before lunch and dinner.
  • Being responsible for children during meals.
  • Putting your small children (2nd grade and under) to bed by 9 pm, children 3rd - 6th grade to bed no later than 10 pm. Both children and parents are happier when they are well rested. Sleep is great! Get your rest!
