Quiet spaces, quiet times

There are a lot of activities planned for the week. While participating is important, it is also nice to take a few moments out of our day for some alone time. The Kenyon campus has many places perfect for quiet reflection, mediation, book-reading or people-watching. There are Adirondack chairs scattered all around the campus, and beautiful trees to sit under. Take some time out of your busy day to enjoy our surroundings.

The Pool will be open in the afternoons

Basketball Courts ready for your game. Bring your ball!

"Some Things You Want to Know About Kenyon"

The village of Gambier, which grew up around the college, has many amenities: a bank, a post office, a grocery store, a deli, and a coffee shop. All of these are situated on the main road, Gaskin street. The nationally-acclaimed Kenyon bookstore is also on this strip. The campus is not isolated; townspeople use the college facilities and all visitors are made welcome. Summer Institute will use the South Campus dormitories, where most of our activities will take place. The dormitories are stone buildings, influenced by gothic architecture. The rooms are larger than the average modern dorms. All have dormitory bathrooms and none are air-conditioned.

A limited number of air-conditioned accommodations are available on the North Campus. Parking spots are just outside this housing. Campers should be aware that these units are a considerable walking distance from the South Campus, but parking is available on the South Campus so one can drive to classes and other activities.

Campers must also be aware that Gund Hall, where all of our meals and a few other activities will take place, is on the North Campus. Walking from South Campus to Gund Hall takes ten to fifteen minutes at an average pace.

There are many other features of the campus and surrounding areas that are available to us. The bike and hike trail is a national "Rails and Trails" multi-use trails that were developed on old railroad beds. The path runs along the Kokosing River, a designated Ohio Scenic River. Another of Kenyon's features is its world-class natatorium. We will also have use of their fitness facilities as well as indoor and outdoor basketball and volleyball areas. For stargazers, the Observatory's friendly staff encourages arranged visits on clear nights.

For more information, go to the college website and their visitor's center or campus map.

Doesn't it sound like a wonderful gathering spot for UU's? Come join us.
