Summer Institute Young Adult Program

Come one, come all!
It is finally the time
for SI Two Thousand and Nine!
Our lord and master from years past,
Jeff Liebmann, is coming, at last!

That's right: Jeff Liebmann will return to be our theme speaker this year. Jeff has proven time and again through the years that he is a great educator and resource and the Young Adults are honored to have him grace us with his presence.

Jeff has this to say to all of us: Is a Sustained Unitarian Universalist Intentional Community Possible?

Throughout history, people of courage and conviction have tried to create perfect societies. These dreamers have yet to succeed, but the ideal of utopia has value. Unitarian Universalism respects the religious journeys and inherent worth and dignity of all people. With such a world view, how can our diverse voices come together to create new communities -- communities that challenge the paradigms of modern society that breed division by class, political ideology, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, as well as theology? Can we create a community dedicated to helping every citizen experience deep meaning while living according to our principles? We will discuss what a Unitarian Universalist intentional community would look like, and how we could come together to create that community in our lifetimes.

Jeff Liebmann is enrolled in Meadville Lombard Theological School and is currently serving as Intern minister to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Shelter Rock on Long Island. A member of First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, Jeff was a long-time youth advisor and religious educator in the Ohio-Meadville District.

Unfortunately, Jeff the Jedi master won't be speaking for 24 hours a day. Don't worry, through, the week will be full of other phenomenal activities!

Are you a Ninja, or a pirate? Be prepared for the most extreme scavenger hunt of our time; glamorous booty is assured.

Monte Carlo night, the premier black tie event of SI, will be hosted by the young adults, as always so be sure to bring your formal wear!

Be prepared for big fun games, ultimate frisbee, a pizza party, and the typical young adult antics!

Are you an early riser? Summer Institute offers intriguing workshops in the morning, so be sure to sign up for one!

For those who can't get off of work, or can't afford the entire week, don't fear! You may join us for a Young Adult Weekend Extravaganza "W.E." from Thursday through Saturday!

If you have questions about the YA Weekend Extravaganza, or any other part of the 2009 Young Adults Program, we now have a primary contact email: siyapc at gmail.com
