Rachel Baker
Rachel Baker joined the OMD staff Sept 1, 2011 as the new Social Witness Coordinator. Rachel, a candidate for Unitarian Universalist ministry who has just completed her M.Div. coursework at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, California, brings relevant work and volunteer experience along with genuine passion and enthusiasm for the justice initiatives of the Ohio-Meadville District, UUA, and our congregations. Rachel is especially inspired to help social justice committees from neighboring congregations work together on justice issues relevant to the district and region. She is interested in working collaboratively with people involved in interfaith social justice efforts as well. She feels that working together is the most effective way to end oppression. Rachel has done a variety of direct care justice work, including literacy training for adults and children, operating a homeless shelter, and teaching English and HIV/AIDS prevention workshops while a Peace Corps volunteer. Rachel is looking forward to shifting her social justice focus towards advocacy and supporting existing and new intra- and interfaith initiatives in the district.
