Would your congregation like to help bend the arc of the universe towards justice by participating in denomination-wide social justice campaigns? Would you like comprehensive action resources delivered monthly to your church and your email inbox? Would you like actions spread throughout the entire year on a schedule? If so, we have just the opportunity for you!
The Unitarian Universalist Association’s Advocacy and Witness staff group is launching an exciting initiative called Action of the Month. Each month, the UUA will implement robust action campaigns that aim to engage congregations and individual UUs. Actions of the Month will focus on accomplishing concrete policy objectives that reflect our faith values.
We will be building action campaigns around the following objectives this year:
-
January Action of the Month: Living Wage - This month’s action will help bring the minimum wage closer to a living wage by supporting the Let Justice Roll Living Wage Campaign to raise the federal minimum wage to $10 in 2010.
-
February Action of the Month: BGLT Equality - Join UUs across the nation in Lobbying for BGLT Equality. Visit your Representative or Senator’s district or national office and ask them to support BGLT equality.
-
March: Action of the Month: Comprehensive Sex Ed - The March Action of the Month will coincide with our annual Sexuality Education and Advocacy Training, which teaches members how to be effective advocates for comprehensive sexuality education.
- April - Environomental Justice
- May - Immigration
- June - General Assembly
- July - GA Follow Up
- August - Gulf Coast
